Gressoney, from the European Cup to the World Games
The last test before Vancouver
The Slalom competition ladies, that will take place tomorrow afternoon in Gressoney-Saint-Jean, will be a test event for the next Winter Military World Games of March, and a very fascinating race before the Olympic Games. According to the programme, there will be the track inspection from 4.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m., the first run at 5.30 p.m., and the second run at 8.00 p.m.; the prize-giving ceremony will be at 9.30 p.m., and the winner will be given the Trophy Leonardo David, dedicated to the unforgotten and very unlucky champion of the Aosta Valley.
Not only a European Cup Slalom, but even something more: there are many World Cup athletes attending the competition on the Leonardo David track. That is in accordance with a quite bizarre calendar: the two last Slaloms have taken place on 12th January in Flachau, five days later in Maribor, and then, there will be no more races until the 26th of February, the second last day of the Olympics, in Whistler Creekside (Canada), where the winner will be given the Olympic medal.
For keeping a high agonistic tension, many athletes of the White Circus are looking for competitions at a high technical level, like that offered by the “Leonardo David” track, which has become part of the European Cup circuit from this season. At the moment, there are more than one hundred athletes representing 22 nations, and Italy is represented by 16 ladies.
