Vancouver: The “military” medals for Italy
bad weather influences the programme
For Italy, one silver and two bronze medals. The first one won by Alessandro Pittin, third into the Nordic Combined, after doing a big job: he was sixth after the Jumping competition, but with a big final rush into the 10 km race, he managed to reach the podium. The gold medal has been won by the French athlete Jason Lamy Chappuis; the silver one by the US athlete Johnny Spillane. A “hard”, revelation medal, conquered with method, and, by training also in Italy with the same time zone of Vancouver, a nine-hour difference time: he spent the Italian days following the Canadian time zone.
Then, the eternal Armin Zoeggeler has conquered the third step of the podium, behind the German pair Loch and Moeller. The Carabiniere of Merano is at the fifth successive Olympic podium, after the bronze medal of Lillehammer ’94, the silver medal of Nagano ’98, and the gold medals of Salt Lake City 2002 and Turin 2006.
After the gold medal Dario Cologna (Swizerland) Pietro Piller Cottrer is in the second floor of the podium.
The bad weather has been influencing the programme of the alpine ski races at the Winter Olympics in Canada. At Whistler, the organizers have cancelled the downhill training of ladies in programme today at 8.00 p.m. Italian time (11.00 a.m. local time), because of rain and snow. It’s the third time from Thursday, that the downhill event is cancelled, due to bad weather. Medals:
