Once Pila was covered in pastures and alpine huts. Summer tourism began in Pila at the start of the twentieth century which involved so-called resort holidays. During the two world wars people started to come to Pila during the winter. In 1949 the first chairlift was opened that joined Les Fleurs to Pila.

Since then the resort has continued to develop. The ski resort covers an area of 12 Km2 and 70 Km of pistes which extend in altitude from 1,540 to 2,750 metres.

There are various itineraries available to mountain bike enthusiasts in Pila, as well as spectacular descent pistes, the theatre of international competition. There is also a nine hole golf course that is among the highest in Europe.

Anyone can go trekking in the summer in Pila: in the summer, in fact, this district half an hour from the chief town in the region, is where elite tourism and family holidays combine in perfect harmony thanks to a variety of offers, presenting spectacular, natural scenery and flatland for excursionists who don't like climbing steep mountains, while mountaineering enthusiasts will find medium difficulty climbs with the possibility of reaching the summits of Becca di Nona at 3,142 metres, Monte Emilius at 3,559 metres and also Colle Tzasetze at 2,829 metres; by walking through the heart of the woodland you arrive to Chamolé Lake at 2,311 metres.
