Flassin Saint Oyen

(Ski mountaineering)

Located at the foot of the Comba di Bosses, between conifer forests and meadows, dominated by the Aiguille dell'Artanavaz, Saint-Oyen, positioned at an altitude of 1373 metres, is a village that has always survived on agriculture and animal rearing. Château Verdun is a vast strong-house and interesting ancient construction that was already an annex of the Gran San Bernardo Hospice.

The building was donated in 1137 by count Amedeo III of Savoy to the canonicals of the Gran San Bernardo who still possess it, and who recently transformed it into a very characteristic "Maison d'accueil".

To the tourist industry, the reception structure in Flassin is a modern "Foyer de Fond": a service building for those playing sports who can make use of the showers, changing rooms, competition room and ski school; this structure represents a great promotional and welcoming opportunity for cross-country ski lovers. The snow play park in Flassin is also very interesting and, with a surface area of 50,000 square metres, offers both children and adults the opportunity to enjoy different play activities.

Some summer excursions not to be missed include Plan Puitz, Tête de Barasson and the Comba di Flassin.

Each year, as in all the towns in the Valley of the Gran San Bernardo, a carnival is organised with a procession parading the key figures and traditional masks of Comba Freide. Each parade, however, stands out in its own right with its own original aspects.
